Volunteers

We could not accomplish all we do in each of our programs without the support of our volunteer base. We receive fantastic volunteer support for our programs and events and there is always room for more.  If you have any time or interest in helping at-risk youth or building boats, stop by and see us at work.

Daytime volunteers typically assist in boatbuilding, tutoring apprentices, or engaging in building or maintenance projects both large and small. We ask for a regular commitment (certain days or times of day) so that we can really integrate you into the program and make you part of some meaningful work.

The best day to stop by is Tuesday when many of our daytime volunteers are here. The 2 Duke St. Shop opens at 8:00 and lunch is at 11:30.

A recent day in the Duke St. shop -- volunteers laminating two important parts, the stem and the transom of the first of two Potomac River Dory Boats, the WILLIAM HENRY. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/asfgallery for additional pictures.

If you do not have daytime hours available or are looking to participate in ASF in a more limited way, we have Open Shop on Tuesday night , 7-9 pm.

We also are developing a Saturday Corporate Partner Program where volunteers with day jobs, typically from area companies, can come and work on the Dory Boat for half a day.  Call Kathy Seifert at 703-549-7078 to discuss possibilities and scheduling.

On a recent Saturday members of the ASF Board spent the day working on the WILLIAM HENRY

We also can use some assistance on special projects and in the office, so if you have any interest or talent in development, graphics, publishing, websites, software, social media, give us a call or stop by the Seaport Center at 0 Thompson Alley, beside the Torpedo Factory Food Court.
