Leaders of our community nonprofits blaze trails
in uncharted territory.
The trailblazers you'll meet on the following pages—Joe Youcha of the Alexandria Seaport Foundation, Carla Perlo of Dance Place and Gustavo Torres of CASA de Maryland—routinely adapt to changing landscapes. Among the things they see are an alarming number of young dropouts without the tools for success; neighborhoods facing shifting demographics and heightened tensions; and people of all ages neglecting to care for their bodies and spirits.
Despite these challenges, these leaders never lose sight of why they do this work: to honor their missions, respectfully serve their clients, and inspire donors and volunteers. How do we fortify these organizations against the inevitable bumps they will encounter as they respond to shifts in the landscape?
