The Teaching with Small Boats Conference was a tremendous success. We were able to bring together most of the groups in North America who use small boats as teaching tools. It was the first time in 17 years that this group of organizations has gotten together, and we're very proud that we sponsored the event and that it happened in our new shop space at the Seaport Foundation.
We had 89 participants from 63 programs. The 63 programs represented consist of 53 established programs and 10 start-ups who:
Serve 27,000 learners
Reach their stated program goals with 18,600 of them.
Have combined budgets of almost $14,000,000
Employ 263 staff
Utilize 990 volunteers who contribute approximately 100,000 hours
That’s a pretty substantial group!
The feedback from it has been wonderful. The participants were very impressed with our facilities, staff, volunteers and especially, apprentices.
All of the groups agreed to form an alliance and work together in the future. We’ve always wanted to reach more kids than we physically can in our shops. Forming this group is a major step forward in our efforts to help more young people, and aligns closely with the goals of our Building to Teach program. We couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities.
A website is going together and we'll add a link when it goes live. to see pictures of the event.
