Swing for Seaport and Seaport Day 2010--The Waterfront is the Place to Be September 24-25!

Come out and play at Seaport Day! This year's celebration of boatbuilding on the Alexandria waterfront is bursting at the seams.  Festivities will start Friday night, September 24 at 7:00 pm at the Old Dominion Boat Club, with a light buffet and open wine/beer bar.  Bring your dancing shoes and Swing for Seaport to the music of the Grandsons. For tickets, go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/124819, or contact Kathy at 703-549-7078 or seifert@alexandriaseaport.org. $75 a ticket.

.

On Seaport Day Saturday, we'll be all over the waterfront from noon until 4!! Front and center at the City Dock by the Torpedo Factory, ASF apprentices will demonstrate their skills by building a boat for the crowd (a completed boat will also be on display). There will be toy boat models to build and a kiddie pool in which to sail them. Potomac Riverboat Company will be having Pirate Cruises leaving on the hour and you can find refreshments for the entire family at nearby Bittersweet, Waterfront Wiener, and Barkeley Square Dog Bakery.

To the north, more boatbuilding at the Seaport Center where the Haven 12 1/2 will continue to receive its finishing touches. A small steamboat will be on display and there will be opportunities to row in our hand-crafted wooden boats. And don't forget to buy chances on a custom-painted rowboat for your very own!

To the south, at Waterfront Park, our existing Dory boat, the Potomac, will be available for tours. An exhibit of the history of the Dory Boat and our plans to build two more will be on display. And further south, the 2 Duke Street/Robinson Terminal workshop, the heart of the apprentice program, will be open for further tours and demonstrations of all things nautical, including knot tying and oar building.

Don't be left out--come and enjoy the fun!
